On the Representativeness of OpenStreetMap for the Evaluation of Country Tourism Competitiveness

Since 2007, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has issued data on factors and policies that contribute to development of tourism competitiveness across countries worldwide. While WEF compiles yearly report out from governmental private stakeholders, we seek analyze representativeness open collaborative platform OpenStreetMap (OSM) international scene. For this study, selected eight parameters indicative each country, such as number beds or cultural sites, extracted OSM objects representative these indicators. Then, performed a statistical regression analysis compare model emitted by with OSM. Our aim is tourist respect official reports better understand when can be used complement information and, in some cases, scarce non-existent, assess whether substitute. Results show provide fairly accurate picture statistics for most variables. We also discuss reasons why not so variables specific countries. All all, work represents step towards exploitation tourism.
